LONG BEACH, California (Ticker) -- Jayme Connors, who injured an ankle after a bad fall earlier in the contest, made a layup with 7.1 seconds left to lift Long Beach State to a 54-52 upset of No. 15 Houston.
Crystal McCutcheon scored 20 points and reserve Aisha Hollans added 12 and 13 rebounds for the 49ers (4-3), who won despite blowing an 11-point second-half lead.
After Connors' basket, the Cougars (9-2) called timeout, but Daphne Andre misfired on a 3-pointer with two seconds left.
It was Long Beach State's first victory in 19 tries over a ranked team since 1992.
Joanna Overstreet scored 15 points to pace Houston, which shot just 31 percent (20-of-65). Andre added 13 points and Sancho Lyttle had 11 and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 4:49 left.
The 49ers held a 42-27 advantage early in the second half before Houston got back in the game with a 12-0 run.
