HOUSTON - With two days left until the Cougars' Homecoming Game against the Pirates of ECU on Saturday, head coach Art Briles and his staff took the team through a full practice on the UH practice fields.
For those attending the game on Saturday, it is a time for meeting up with old friends, participating in the different festivities, and cheering on the Cougars. For the Briles and the Cougars, it is business as usual in preparing, planning for, and playing another Conference USA opponent, with the exception of a very excited home crowd.
"We are really excited about it being Homecoming, because some people will come out to this game that haven't normally come to the others," said Briles. "Now, we would like to have everybody come out to every game but I understand there are people coming in from out of town and it's a chance for them to come and see us. That's why we want to go out and finish strong and continue on this little roll we have got going here and get a big win over ECU."
Despite all of the pregame and half time festivities that are planned for the Homecoming celebration, Houston is remaining focused and isn't planning on preparing any differently than usual. Briles said, "They still put 60 minutes on the clock for us and that's what we prepare for every week."
At 2-6 on the year and 2-3 in C-USA, the team continues to work tirelessly on improving in each game and doing its best to represent the alumni and student body of the University of Houston.
This week's game plan holds a formula for success if the Cougars can execute what Briles has been preaching to them throughout the week.
"What we have to do is control what we can control That's our personality, the way we play, the intensity that we play with and the attitude we play with," said Briles. "We need to win special teams, we need to win field possession and we need to win the turnover battle. If we do all those things then we will win the game. "
