Lady Cougars Blast Middle Tennessee State

HOUSTON, Texas - Sancho Lyttle scored 19 points and Kiki Harris added 14 as Houston routed Middle Tennessee State in the finale of the Houston Classic on Sunday at Hofheinz, 80-56 to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Houston forced 28 turnovers in the game and converted them into 27 points while, and the Lady Cougars held a 38-34 edge in the paint. To open the second half, Houston went on a 31-10 run to gain their largest lead at 40, 71-31. Middle Tennessee finished the game on a 25-9 run to close the margin to 24.
Houston the was able to use their size down low to open up a 40-21 lead heading into halftime and held the Blue Raiders to 1 of 12 three point shooting in the game while shooting four of 10 from behind the arc. The Blue Raiders kept the game close for the first five and a half minutes, but after a Patrice Holmes lay-up tied the game at 10, the Lady Cougars went on to outscore Middle Tennessee 30-11 to end the half. Lyttle had 11 points in the first half including three ally-oops for layups from Joanne Overstreet.
Houston was coming off a win Friday night over Wisconsin in the first game of the Houston Classic Friday night, 86-61. Houston has scored 80 or more in each of their last four games and have won by at least 17 in their five wins.
Lyttle came within three rebounds of her fourth straight double-double missing it by three rebounds (seven total). Cynecia Robinson led the attack off the bench, which outscored the Blue Raiders, 27-10, with six points and four rebounds.
Houston goes on the road for the next month and a half and will begin the trip at No. 13 Purdue Tuesday night. They play Northwestern on Friday and Virginia on Saturday as part of the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational in Chicago.
