Women's Basketball to Host Creighton on Wednesday

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team continues its homestand to open the season when it plays host to Creighton at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Lady Cougars. who have won seven straight on their home court dating back to last season, come into the game on the heels of an impressive 88-65 win over Sun Belt Conference member North Texas on Sunday afternoon.
In that game against the Mean Green, the Lady Cougars trailed 40-39 at the halftime break before taking control of the game early in the second half. UH took advantage of an 18-0 run over a 7-minute span to break the game open and win their second straight to open the 2004-05 season.
Senior forward Sancho Lyttle leads the Lady Cougars with 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game this season. In her last outing, Lyttle grabbed a career-high 16 boards against UNT, including 11 off the defensive glass.
Senior point guard Joann Overstreet also has been a leader for the Lady Cougars, scoring 9.0 points and dishing out 10.5 assists per game, including a career high 14 assists against North Texas.
Overstreet has been a defensive presence as well for the Lady Cougars, swiping 17 opposing passes through the first two games.
Creighton comes into the game with a 2-0 record as well after knocking off Missouri-Kansas City 84-64 on Monday night.
Junior guard Kristi Woodard leads the Bluejays with 19.0 points per game and is one of three Creighton players in double digits. Senior guard Laura Spanheimer leads all players with 10.0 rebounds per game.
Once Wednesday's game is finished, the Lady Cougars will make plans to play host to the Houston Classic, starting Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion. UH opens the three-day event with a 7 p.m. game Friday against Wisconsin and closes out the affair at 2 p.m., Sunday against Middle Tennessee.
In between the Lady Cougar games, Wisconsin will square off against Middle Tennessee at 2 p.m., Saturday.
