HOUSTON - For fans who haven't seen the University of Houston football team on its home field in a long time, three of the next four weekends belong to you.
The Cougars, who have not played at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium since Sept. 18, begin a three-game stretch during the last four weeks on their home field this weekend. The homestand begins this weekend when UH plays host to Conference USA rival Tulane at 4 p.m., Saturday.
The game will be broadcast on Star 790, KBME-AM with the pregame show beginning 45 minutes prior to kickoff. Tom Franklin and Tony Fitzpatrick will call all the action from the booth with Chuck Brown serving as the sideline reporter.
All Cougar Football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
The Cougars worked out for just less than two hours Tuesday at the UH Athletics Complex in preparation for only their second home contest. After enduring a difficult 1-6 start to the 2004 season, second-year head coach Art Briles said following practice that it felt good to return home.
"We're very excited about being back home because it's comfortable surroundings," Briles said. "It's a situation where we hope we have a great crowd, and people come out and really support."
Although the Cougars were eliminated from bowl contention with last weekend's loss at C-USA foe TCU, Briles said he was proud of his team's performance at practice Tuesday and said that the Cougars still had plenty of things to play for.
"We bounced around pretty good," Briles said. "Right now we are playing for pride, self-esteem and our program and University."
The Cougars will be looking to stop a Tulane team which enjoyed a 59-55 win over UAB last weekend. However, the Cougars will be looking for better times against the Green Wave on their home field after losing two of the last three games to Tulane in Houston.
