HOUSTON - After nearly two weeks off, the University of Houston football team began its weekly preparations Tuesday with another opponent looming this weekend.
The Cougars worked out for about two hours Tuesday at the UH Athletics Complex in preparation for their first game since a 35-29 loss at Conference USA rival Southern Miss on Oct. 7. UH meets C-USA rival TCU at 6 p.m., Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
The game will be broadcast on Star 790, KBME-AM with the pregame show beginning 45 minutes prior to kickoff. Tom Franklin and Tony Fitzpatrick will call all the action from the booth with Chuck Brown serving as the sideline reporter.
All Cougar Football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
With such a long break between games, the Cougars used the time to catch up on on-the-field business and rest, second-year head coach Art Briles said.
"What we've tried to do is let our guys catch up on all of their school work. We had a lot of games early, and some of them may have fallen behind a little bit, and if they did, it gave them a chance to catch up," Briles said. "We worked on conditioning and strength and technique and basically stayed pretty regular and constant with what we've been doing, and we're having a regular week this week and be ready to go play."
Fans will remember the shootout with the Horned Frogs a year ago at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium, a 62-55 TCU win. However, Briles said he doesn't care what the score is in the 2004 meeting as long as UH has more points.
"I just hope that we have one more point than they have, whether it be 3-2 or 63-62," Briles said. "Last year it just started out fast and stayed fast for both sides. This year could be entirely different, it could be a defensive struggle. We're just going up there determined and businesslike and ready to take care of business."
