On the game against Southern Miss (Oct. 7) and this week's game at TCU
"The Southern Miss game seems like a long time ago and is in the past, so it's forgotten about and we're moving on. All of our energy and our focus, of course, is on TCU and finishing up these last five games like we know we can. The first one has to happen this weekend at TCU. We're very determined, very excited and very eager to go up to TCU and take care of business."
In looking back at last season's game against the Horned Frogs, this year they have scheduled the game as their Homecoming.
"I guess you are referring to the game last season being a shoot-out between us and TCU? I just hope that we have one more point than they have, whether it be 3-2 or 63-62. It's really hard to predict how a game is going to go, with all of the factors involved. Last year it just started out fast and stayed fast for both sides. This year could be entirely different, it could be a defensive struggle. We're just going up there like I mentioned, determined and businesslike and ready to take care of business."
What have you (the team) been doing the last week-and-a-half?
"What we've tried to do is let our guys catch up on all of their school work. We had a lot of games early, and some of them may have fallen behind a little bit, and if they did, it gave them a chance to catch up. We worked on conditioning and strength and technique and basically stayed pretty regular and constant with what we've been doing, and we're having a regular week this week and be ready to go play."
How healthy is the team?
"We're in good shape. We really are. Everybody that had been banged up a little bit is back, with the exception of those guys who have been lost for the year. Everybody else is back and will be ready to go on Saturday."
TCU has been known for their defense that past few years. Are you surprised people have been able to throw the ball for so many yards against them so far this season?
"It's hard to say. The cliche´ answer is that nothing surprises me, and it really doesn't. It's really hard to determine what is going to happen (in a game). There are a lot of good teams out there, and a lot of good teams are throwing the football and they've (TCU) played against some good teams that throw the ball well. It just hasn't turned out how they (TCU) have wanted to at times. They are an exceptional football team on both sides of the ball and on special teams. They have good people and good schemes, and it would be a really great win for us."
What do they (TCU) do differently when they change quarterbacks. Do they change anything?
"They don't' really change anything schematically. They (TCU quarterbacks) both have talents that they utilize to the best of their ability.
"Honestly, there is nothing that we have noticed. It's just different talent (between the two QBs). Each guy does a couple things differently than the other, and that's what we have to prepare for. They both run well, throw well, and there's a little bit of a difference in the levels of each of those with each one of them."
