HOUSTON - With a storied past and a bright future, the University of Houston golf team will be featured soon in a segment on The Golf Channel.
A film crew from College Central presented by PING will be in Houston on Tuesday to tour the UH Athletic Department facilities and become more familiar with the program. 2004 captain Zach Mowbray will lead the crew through the facilities and around the city of Houston as part of the show.
"We are very proud that The Golf Channel has chosen the University of Houston to be featured," said Vince Jarrett, who is now in his first year with the program. "This says so much about the history at the University and where this program is headed in the future."
The three-minute segment, which will run as part of College Central's Campus Spotlight, will be shown at a later date. College Central is slated to begin airing at 9:30 p.m. (CST), Feb. 11, and will run through the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 27-30.
When talking about collegiate golf, the University of Houston is one of the first names that comes to mind. In the 52-year history of the program, the Cougars have recorded 16 team NCAA national championships, eight individual NCAA national championships and more than 350 tournament victories.
Former Cougar golfers have won more than $65 million and 13 major championships on the PGA Tour.
College Central is the exclusive home of the Coaches Poll and is the only form of media that focuses solely on collegiate golf.
The 2004 Cougar squad opens its spring season on Feb. 11-13 when it competes at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Kona, Hawai'i.
