After running an NCAA-provisional time of 8.37 seconds to place third in the women's 60-meter hurdles at the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 17, University of Houston track and field sprinter Alicia Cave has been named Co-Athlete of the Week, it was announced by Conference USA this morning (Jan. 20).
Cave's finish time of 8.37 seconds is also the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles race since former Cougar standout Jenny Adams finished in 8.10 seconds in 2001.
Cave, a junior, shares the weekly honor with South Florida's Chandra Brewer, who placed third in the shot put with an NCAA-provisional mark of 52-4.5 at the Florida Intercollegiate on Jan. 17.
The Houston Indoor Opener was the Cougars' first meet of the indoor season. They host the Leonard Hilton Memorial meet in Yeoman Fieldhouse in the Athletecs/Alumni Center on Friday, Jan. 23, with field events slated to begin at 2:00pm and running events at 3:00pm.
