HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston head football coach Art Briles today announced the addition of Beau Trahan to his coaching staff. Trahan will serve as the offensive graduate assistant.
Briles believes Trahan's personality and dedication will become a vital cog in the Cougars return to national prominence.
"Beau brings a tremendous football background to our program," commented the second-year head coach. "He is a coach's son (father, Warren, is the head coach at Dickinson High School and also coached Beau at Bay City High School), so he is going to bring the enthusiasm, intelligence and the attitude of overcoming that comes with being around football your entire life.
"These attributes are the style of play Beau possessed as a player."
A four-year letterman (1999-2002) at the University of Texas, Trahan spent last fall as a graduate assistant for his alma mater, working with the Longhorn defensive staff and breaking down game film. A three-time Special Teams MVP (2000-02), Trahan played both quarterback and defensive back during his career, but he made his greatest impact on special teams.
Like Briles, Trahan is excited about the opportunity to join Cougar staff.
"I am really excited about working for Coach Briles and this staff," said Trahan. "This is an up-and-coming program, and I see a lot of potential for it. Plus, it puts me closer to home.
"I want to help get this program back to where it needs to be."
He played in 52 games, including four bowl games and two Big 12 title matches, posting 64 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. Trahan, who also served as the team's holder, scored three career special teams touchdowns.
A native of Bay City, Trahan was a four-sport athlete at Bay City High. Playing for his father, Trahan was a four-year starter at quarterback and twice earned District Offensive MVP honors. Trahan also was an all-district performer in basketball and finished second in the Texas 4A 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles as a senior.
Trahan, who completed his Texas degree in kinesiology in the summer of 2003, was a second-team Academic All-Big 12 performer in 1999 and claimed a Longhorn Community Service Award in 2001. Trahan was a teammate of current Cougar Kendal Briles for two seasons (2001-2002) when the younger Briles played at Texas.
