Volleyball falls to No. 21 Notre Dame

The University of Houston volleyball team took the first two games of their match against Notre Dame Fighting Irish Friday night, but fell in five games the No.21 team in the country at the Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas.
The Cougars jumped out quick, winning 30-25 in both of the first two games of the two hour and 12 minute match, but Notre Dame bounced back to take the second and third games 30-21, 30-21. The Fighting Irish took the final game 15-11, improving to 3-1 on the season. Houston is now 2-2 on the year and will take on Nicholls State Saturday night in their final game of the tournament.
Houston was led by freshman Kelly McAnelly, who pounded out 20 kills and scoring 21 points for the match. Becca Sartori chipped in with 15 kills for the Cougars while juniors Cinthia Piva and Loure Dews added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Sophomore libero Jaci Gonzalez provided the bulk of the defense for Houston with 30 of Houston's 65 digs, while Piva added 12.
The Cougars will be in action again Saturday at 5 p.m. when they take on the Colonels, who lost to the University of Texas in four games.
