Houston - The University of Houston football team practiced through rainy weather for two hours Wednesday afternoon in preparation for their Saturday match up with the Michigan Wolverines. The Cougars meet the Wolverines in an 11 a.m. (Central) game Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium in front of a crowd expected to be in excess of 110,000 people for the game that game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
Head coach Art Briles said the Cougars had a good practice, getting ready for the No. 5 team in the country.
"We moved around and tried to get better," he said. "Everyday you need to go out and try to improve. Our guys went out, worked hard and we're a day closer."
Briles said his team has put their 48-14 performance against the Rice Owls last Saturday behind them. The focus now is solely on Michigan and what the Cougars have to do to be successful.
"They've got that behind them," Briles said about the season opening win. "We're mature enough and intelligent enough to know that each week is a new week and you have to go out and prove yourself each week. Last Saturday we were fortunate enough to get a win and we've got to go out there this Saturday and try to get another one."
With that attitude in mind, Briles said every practice for the Cougars is important because everything is still new.
"We're still in the infant stages of our team and program, so each day is a chance to evaluate and get better."
