Two days before kicking off with Mississippi State, the University of Houston football team had a spirited practice.
The Cougars will take on the Bulldogs Saturday night at 7 p.m. at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The game is the first home game for Houston since they beat cross-town rival Rice on Aug 30.
Head coach Art Briles was happy with the way the team practiced, saying each day is just as important as the last.
"We had a good practice," Briles said. "Every week is a week to gauge and improve yourself and we'll use this week to do just that."
Mississippi State comes into Robertson Stadium Saturday on the heels of a 31-28 loss to Tulane last Saturday. Briles said he expects the Bulldogs to be ready to play.
I'm sure they're going to play extremely hard because they are coming off a tough loss last week. They're going to come in here eager and anxious, but we are too. We are of the mindset that we've got to improve each week. We've got to show up and become a better team each day and each game, so this will be a good opportunity for us to show what we can do."
The game Saturday will be the last non-conference game for the Cougars who start C-USA play Sept. 30 against East Carolina.
A big crowd and strong performance on the field by the Cougars are important for Saturday's game.
"We need to do a good job, have a great crowd, and get a win for the Cougars," Briles said.
