Volleyball Announces 2003 Schedule

HOUSTON - Houston head volleyball coach Bill Walton announced the Cougars' 2003 regular season schedule today. UH will kick off the campaign with three road tournaments before heading into Conference USA competition and will close the regular season against defending national champion USC.
The Cougars will begin their campaign for a 22nd consecutive winning season Aug. 29-30 at the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas, and will head to Austin for the Longhorn Classic Sept. 5-6. Houston will then host Big XII foe Baylor Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in its home opener at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Houston will meet UC-Irvine, Florida State and St. Mary's Sept. 12-13 in the Sunset Classic in Los Angeles, Calif., and battle crosstown rival Rice Sept. 16 at Autry Court before returning to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion.
Prior to league play, the Cougars will face the Longhorns Sept. 26 in Austin and battle Southern Miss and Tulane on the road Oct. 3 and 4, respectively.
The 2003 C-USA Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Tulane Nov. 21-24 in New Orleans, La. The Cougars will return to Los Angeles Nov. 29 for a final regular season match against defending national champion USC.
The Cougars, who finished 19-13 overall and 7-6 in league play in 2002, will face 19 opponents on the road and will host only nine matches at Hofheinz Pavilion in 2003.

Houston returns four veterans in Loure Dews (Jr.-MB), Jaci Gonzalez (So.-Libero) Monica Prince (Sr.-OH) and Mirela Vasconcellos (Jr.-DS/S) and welcomes eight newcomers this season.
