CHICAGO - The University of Houston tennis team's Miranda Foley and Analia Longoni earned 2003 Second- and Third-Team All-Conference USA honors, respectively, as announced today by the league office.
Foley (Cambridge, England) went 11-9 in the Cougars' No. 1 and 2 singles spots this spring as a true freshman. She earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors twice in 2003 and led Houston to five straight wins in the month of April.
Longoni (Caracas, Venzuela) complied a 13-7 record at the No. 1 and 2 singles spots in her senior season with the Cougars. She went 3-0 at #2 singles during the C-USA championships, defeating St. Louis's Vicki Zielinski, South Florida's Patty Kolendo, and Louisville's Kelly Taylor.
Longoni joined teammate Sarah Flood and head coach Jennifer Hyde in receiving the 2003 C-USA Sportsmanship Award. This award signifies those student-athletes, coaches or teams that perform an individual act of sporting behavior or generally conduct themselves with a high degree of good sportsmanship.
Tulane's Jenny Kuhn became the fourth player in C-USA women's tennis history to collect both the Player and Freshman of the Year honors, while her coach, David Schumaker, received his second Coach of the Year accolade.
Tulane led all Conference USA teams with five all-league selections, followed by TCU with three. DePaul, Houston and Memphis each had two selections apiece.
