Hamilton and Whitley Sign with Cougar Track and Field Teams

Houston, Texas- - University of Houston head track and field coach Leroy Burrell today announced the signings of 2003 state qualifiers Caresir Hamilton of Mesquite Poteet High School and T.J. Whitley of Coldspring High School for the 2004 season.
Hamilton ranks among the state's top 10 high school performers in the high jump and triple jump this season. She has the third-best triple jump in the state with 40' 10 1/4" and the fifth best high jump after clearing 5'9".
Last weekend, Hamilton won the triple jump at the Region II-4A championships with a leap of 41' 4 1/2" to qualify to compete at the UIL State Championships on May 9-10 in Austin. She finished third in the high jump, third in the long jump and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at the Region II-4A meet after winning all four events at the District 12-4A Championships on April 10-11.
She also won the triple jump and had third-place finishes in the long jump and high jump at the Texas Relays earlier this year.
Last year, Hamilton finished in fifth place at the UIL State Championships, when she recorded a mark of 39' 1/4" in the triple jump after finishing second in the event at the 2002 Region II-4A Meet. In addition, she also had a fourth-place finish in the long jump and sixth-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump at the 2002 regional meet.
Whitley also has qualified to compete in the high jump at the UIL Boy's Class 3A State Championships for the second straight year. Last year, he finished in third place with a leap of 6'8" after setting a school record with a winning clearance of 6'10" at the Region III-3A Championships.
This year he duplicated his success at Region III-3A Championships on April 25-26, when he won the high jump and equaled his school record clearance of 6'10" after winning his second straight District 22-3A high jump title.
He also earned All-District and Academic All-District 22-3A honors in basketball.
