Softball Splits C-USA Doubleheader With Louisville

LOUISVILLE - The University of Houston softball team split a Conference USA doubleheader with Louisville Saturday afternoon, winning 2-0 and losing 1-0 at the Ulmer Stadium in Louisville. The Cougars are 34-19 overall and 14-6 in league play.
Houston scored its first runs of the day in the third inning as lead-off batter Jaci Gonzalez was hit by a pitch and Kristen Glowacz singled to left field to put runners in scoring position. Arelis Ferreris followed with a single to center field to drive in Gonzalez and put the Cougars on the board, 1-0.
The Cougars added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning as Kim Nesloney singled to right field and Glowacz followed with another single up the middle. Ferreris knocked out her third single of the day to score Nesloney and pick up her second RBI of the game.
The Cougar defense committed no errors and held the Cardinals scoreless through seven innings. Glowacz led the offense with three of Houston's eight hits.
Junior pitcher Jamie Falco (13-8) gave up only two hits and struck out five in her third shutout of the season as the Cougars prevailed 2-0.
Louisville retaliated by jumping to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two. Shannon Nord singled to right center to lead off the inning and scored as Keona Calderon singled to center.
The Cougars threatened in the top of the seventh as Glowacz stepped to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. She grounded out to third base as the Cardinals held on to the 1-0 win.
Houston left nine on base over seven innings. Amber King had two of Houston's four hits and Ferreris and Michelle Keith each added one apiece..
Jenny Johnson (11-7) struck out three and allowed five hits in the loss.
Houston will wrap up the C-USA series against Louisville Sunday at 11 a.m. CST.
