HOUSTON - Fresh off a big win, the University of Houston baseball team looks to continue its winning ways in league play as it plays host to Saint Louis in a three-game series at Cougar Field this weekend.
The series begins with 7 p.m. games on both Friday and Saturday before wrapping up at 1 p.m., Sunday. The series can be heard live on KAXF 88.3 FM or over the Internet at www.UHcougars.com.
Fans can also follow the action batter-by-batter over the Internet through www.UHcougars.com and by clicking on the "Gametracker" link on the "Daily Calendar" at the bottom of the main page.
UH (19-18) comes into the series on the heels of an impressive 5-1 win over top-ranked Rice in the finale of the 2003 Silver Glove Series. In that game, outfielder Michael Bourn went 2-for-2 with a run, double and RBI, while fellow outfielder Travis Tully batted 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Tully joined outfielder Gabe Lucas, pitcher Brian Henderson - who earned the Cougars' only win of the 2003 Series - first baseman Thanos Papavasiliou and pitcher Ryan Wagner on the All-Series Team. It was the third consecutive year that Lucas was named to the All-Series squad.
UH head coach Rayner Noble had not announced his probable pitching rotation by late Thursday.
Junior third baseman Hyung Cho continues to be the Cougars' Triple Crown leader with a .368 batting average, eight home runs and 26 RBIs. Although he went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's win over Rice, the Toronto, Canada, made his presence felt with a pair of intentional walks.
Saint Louis (13-18, 3-12 C-USA) enters the series on the heels of a 5-1 win over Bradley on Wednesday.
Jake Baumgartner is expected to start on the mound for the Billikens in the first game. This season, he has compiled a 4-2 record in seven starts with a 6.25 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 40.1 innings of work.
This will be the seventh consecutive year that the two teams have met in the all-time series, which has been in favor of UH. The Cougars can boast of a 20-4 all-time record against SLU with 15 straight wins entering this weekend's series. In addition, UH has never lost to the Billikens on its home field, winning nine consecutive games at Cougar Field.
