HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will be looking for revenge when it meets eighth-ranked Baylor at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Baylor Ballpark.
The Bears snapped a three-game losing streak to UH with a 14-4 win over the Cougars during the first day of the Minute Maid Park College Classic on Feb. 15. A year ago, UH swept Baylor three times during the regular-season, including a 5-4 win in Waco on May 17, 2002.
Tuesday's game can be heard live on KAXF 88.3 FM or over the Internet at www.UHcougars.com. Fans can also follow the action batter-by-batter over the Internet through www.UHcougars.com and by clicking on the "Gametracker" link on the "Daily Calendar" at the bottom of the main page.
Junior righthander Gene Flores will make his second consecutive start on Tuesday when he takes the hill against the Bears. In his last outing, the Corpus Christi, Texas, native was effective at No. 1 Rice, scattering one run off three hits in 3.1 innings of work. However, he did not collect a decision as UH rallied late before eventually falling 4-3 to the Owls.
Junior third baseman Hyung Cho continues to lead the Cougars with a .359 batting average and tops the team with 23 hits, five doubles and a .397 on-base percentage.
However, it's junior outfielder Gabe Lucas who brings a hot bat into Tuesday's game. In four games last week, the Houston native batted .533 to raise his batting average 100 points to its current .341 mark.
Lucas rides a season-best five-game hitting streak into the contest against the Bears and is fresh off a 4-for-5 performance against Northwestern State in the series finale at Cougar Field on Sunday. With that number, he set a new personal single-game high in hits.
This will be the final tune-up for the Cougars before they begin Conference USA play this weekend. UH plays host to East Carolina in a three-game series at Cougar Field, beginning with 7 p.m. games on both Friday and Saturday and wrapping up with a 1 p.m. affair Sunday.
Baylor righthander Mark McCormick is slated to start for the Bears.
