HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore Kristen Glowacz was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the period ending Feb. 17.
Glowacz, the Cougars' starting third baseman, tallied four homeruns and 10 RBI as Houston went 4-1 in the Hilton Houston Plaza Cougar Invitational. She notched her first home run of the season Friday against Sam Houston State and led the Cougars with three RBI en route to an 11-7 victory. Just two hours later, Glowacz hit back-to-back homers as Houston trounced Texas Southern, 18-0. Her final homerun of the weekend came in the fourth inning against Pittsburgh as Glowacz blasted a pitch by Janelle Pepe over the left field wall.
This is the first time this season and second of her career that Glowacz has earned Player of the Week honors. She was also the 2002 C-USA Freshman of the Year and named to the 2003 All-C-USA Preseason Team.
The Cougars (5-5, 0-0 C-USA) will hold on to their home field advantage as they host five teams in the 2003 University of Houston Invitational this weekend. Houston will face Kentucky at 4 p.m. and Texas Tech at 6 p.m. Friday, Oregon at 4 p.m. and Kentucky again at 6 p.m. Saturday and UTSA in a double header Sunday at 3 p.m.
