Cougar tennis finishes strong at Florida State Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - The University of Houston tennis team traveled to Florida over the weekend for the 2003 Lady Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., and finished the tournament with impressive results.
Biljana Dimovska finished in second place in the singles "A" draw, falling in the final round to Anca Dumitrescu of Florida State 7-6, 6-2. Dumitrescu had beaten Houston Miranda Foley in the second round 6-4, 6-2 in route to the finals.
Hanaa Rhazi captured the consolation championship in the singles "A" draw. After dropping the opening game of the match 0-6, Rhazi bounced back to take the match 6-2, 6-4 for the title. In the singles "A" consolation back draw Kami Miller won the finals 6-3, 6-2.
In the doubles "B" draw Houston's team of Foley and Yolandi Terblanche breezed through the field to win the championship. In the finals Foley and Terblanche beat Florida State's Natalie Tirapelli and Roxanne Clarke 8-3 to capture the title. In the doubles "B" draw consolation round the Cougar tandem of Miller and Sandy Blajer captured the consolation championship with an 8-6 win over Central Florida's Kristina Lohmos and Amira Samara.
The Seminole Invitational wraps up the fall schedule for tennis. The Cougars will now prepare for their spring schedule, which gets underway on January 31, 2004 in Lake Charles Louisiana when Houston takes on McNeese State at 1:30 p.m.
