Houston, Texas - University of Houston Sports Information November 13, 2003 For Immediate Release University of Houston head football coach Art Briles will have a new experience as a coach when the Cougars travel to West Point, N.Y. and play Army on Saturday. It will mark the first time Briles has faced a team from a service academy as a coach or player.
"I am looking forward to the challenge," Briles said. "It will be just like every game we have played in that it will be a tough fight for 60 minutes. We are just focusing on trying to get a win."
The Cougars wrapped up their preparation with a two-hour practice in shorts and shoulder pads before rounding out the day with conditioning work in the UH Weight Room.
"We have had a good week of practice," Briles said. "We have had good focus, intensity and enthusiasm."
Briles is hoping that preparation pays off for the Cougars, but knows his team will be in for a tough fight against the Black Knights.
"Even though they are looking for their first win, they have been in every game and have good schemes on both sides of the ball," Briles said. "They keep it close and haven't lost a game by more than 7-10 points."
The game can be heard at Noon on KTRH (740 AM) Saturday with Craig Ackerman (play by play), Chuck Brown (color analyst) and Chris Burkhalter (sideline reporter) describing the action.
