HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston softball team started the fall season on a roll over the weekend, posting a 5-1 record at the UH Fall Tournament.
The Cougars started the tournament with a 1-0 win over Galveston Community College Saturday morning before taking on the University of Texas. The Cougars trailed the Longhorns 3-2 in the fourth inning before Lindsay Durham's two-run home run gave them a 4-3 advantage to win the game.
In Saturday's nightcap Houston jumped all over Blinn Junior College, winning 8-2.
On Sunday the Cougars started day two of the tournament the same way they had Saturday with wins over Galveston and Texas, Houston's 3-0 win over Galveston gave the Cougars momentum as they headed into the UT game. Houston then used an offensive explosion to jump all over Texas.
Jenilee Skender hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Cougars beat Texas 7-2.
Houston will be in action again this weekend when they play the UH World Series Saturday and on Sunday when they take on McNeese State and Grayson at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Baseball USA.
