HOUSTON, Texas - With no game on the schedule for this week, the University of Houston football team had a second consecutive day of lighter than usual workouts Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars will play again on Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. when they take on Southern Miss for Homecoming at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
Houston head coach Art Briles said the advantage to having the week off before finishing out the season is that the team can get fresh and increase their strength.
"We're just trying to refresh, refocus, try to gain some strength and take care of our classes," Briles said. "We're not trying to get to high this week as far as emotions go. We're going to try to keep it low key and start gearing up on Sunday.
After the shootout the Cougars participated in last week against TCU, Briles said it is nice to have the bye week come when it did.
"It comes at a good time," he said. "Plus we're starting the third phase of our season this week so we've planned on this since August 1. We knew we'd have this week off and we'd have four to finish. That's our motto, 'four to finish'."
