HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will christen the San Diego Padres' new ballpark when they meet host San Diego State at 9 p.m. (CST), March 11, 2004 during first-day competition in the Aztec Invitational at PETCO Park in San Diego.
Other schools participating in the four-day event are Long Beach State, Nebraska, UCLA, San Diego, UC San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene.
In the tournament opener, the Cougars and Aztecs will look to break the all-time attendance record for a collegiate contest set in 2002 when 27,673 fans saw LSU defeat Tulane in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
Invitational passes covering all 10 games are priced at $50 for adults and $30 for students. In addition, a limited number of VIP tickets are available at a cost of $200. All seats for the SDSU game are reserved with all other games sold as general admission.
All-session tickets can be reserved by calling (619) 283-7378. Ticket order forms can be found on the baseball page at SDSU's web site at www.goaztecs.com. Single-day tickets are expected to be made available in January.
The Cougars open their 2004 season on Feb. 13-15 when they play at the Minute Maid Park College Classic. UH faces Kansas State at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 13, in the tournament opener for both teams.
