Cougar tennis finishes play at ITA Southwest Regional

The University of Houston tennis team took to the courts over the weekend at the ITA Women's Southwest Regional hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
Despite getting just one win from a Cougar in the opening round of the tournament, Houston was well represented overall. Miranda Foley won her first two matches of the tournament over Emma McDougal of Sam Houston State (7-5, 6-2) and Seva Iwinski of Texas A&M (7-5, 6-2) before falling for UT-Arlington's Monicca Peciulionyre (6-1, 7-5) in the round of 32.
After dropping her opening round match to Paige Brown of TCU 7-6, 6-4, junior Biljana Dimovska ripped through the field to win the finals of the consolation bracket. Dimovska defeated six players to capture the consolation championship. Wins over Megan Schmulbach of North Texas 6-0, 6-1, Kendall Brooks of Texas Tech 6-1, 6-1, Yessica Rizelia of Southeastern Louisiana 6-1, 6-3, Inge Veerman of the University of New Orleans 6-1, 3-6, 10-7, Yasmin Fisher of Rice University 6-4, 7-5 and Lauren Seaman of LSU 5-7, 6-2, 10-5.
Diana Martin dropped her opening round match of the tournament to Izabela Mijic of Balor 6-2, 6-2, but bounced back in the consolation bracket with a two wins. Martin beat Natalia Ostrovska of Louisiana-Monroe 6-2, 6-3 and Allison Leuszler of SMU 6-2, 6-3 before falling to Yasmin Fisher of Rice 6-2, 6-3.
Hanaa Rhazi and Kami Miller also competed in singles play,
In doubles play the Cougars also picked up several wins. Dimovska and Martin paired up for wins over Rosario Negrete and Bindiya Parekh of Arkansas Little Rock 8-2 and Nataliya Ostrovska and Veronica Perez of Louisiana-Monroe 8-2 before falling to Maria Ivanov and Nancy Kockott of Tulane 8-2.
Foley and Rhazi were paired together and were beaten in the first round by Chantal Lesaar and Nadezda Rossithina of Texas-San Antonio 8-3, but bounced back in the consolation bracket to beat Blair DiSesa and Erika Villabos of Rice 8-2 before falling to Inge Veerman and Jaetita Zambski of New Orleans 8-2.
The Cougars will be in action again when they travel to Tallahassee Florida for the Florida Sate Invitational November 7-9.
