HOUSTON, Texas - Fresh off a 27-13 win over East Carolina, the University of Houston football team hit the practice field Thursday afternoon for a two-hour practice in preparation for their showdown with Tulane on October 11 at 1:30 p.m. in New Orleans at Tad Gormley Stadium.
In their first practice since returning from their Conference USA opening win, the Cougars got a good workout in.
"We basically came out and did mental repetitions with some physical exertion involved," head coach Art Briles said, "It was a productive practice. Our players got to move around and work up a sweat so we feel good about the way the practice went."
Despite having their first practice of the week fall on a Thursday, Briles said the change is good.
"That's the schedule we were dealt so that's the schedule we will live with," he said. It's been a good change. It has allowed them to catch up in school a little bit and allowed us to increase our strength some, so it's been nice. The best part is that we won and got 10 days to prepare for Tulane and we're going to go in there with a lot of confidence and a good attitude."
Briles said getting the first conference road was nice, but knows his team needs to do it again before returning home to Robertson Stadium on October 18.
"We need to go make it two conference wins on the road," Briles said. "It never stops, each week is a new challenge. Tulane is going to be a great opportunity and a chance for us to take our program to the next level and that's what we're looking forward to."
The Cougars will not practice Friday afternoon or Saturday and will resume practice on Sunday.
