UH soccer coach answered questions Monday.

Bill Solberg: Good morning and thanks to everyone that has posted questions. I will do my best to answer as many as possible. |

|
| Carlos (Houston): hey coach
I have been to several games this season. It seems like you are running a "long ball" style of play with very little passing. Can you describe for us the type of style the team is using?
Thanks |

Bill Solberg: Carlos, thanks for the question and for attending the games. Right now we are running a 3-4-3 system. We are actually more of a possession oriented team, but are struggling with it just a little bit. We need to get our outside midfielder down the field and more involved in the attack. If we can get them more involved in the attack it will allow for more options going forward and serving the ball. In the beginning of the year when our back line is being pressed we tried to play out of that, and got caught turning it over and countered. When we are pressed, we try to find the forwards foot early or release the pressure out the other so, as to avoid a turnover in the back third. Believe it or not we are a better team than we were last year. We have been incredibly unlucky, hitting the post and not finishing our opportunities. |

| George Houston: This being your first season with all your players how do you feel about the record??
Is this a refelction on the recruiting or on the competition?? |
 |
 |
Bill Solberg: George, thanks for the question. This year we scheduled the toughest schedule in the history of the program. We wanted to see where we stack up. We have been able to hang with some very good teams this year. SMU, Georgia, South Carolina, DePaul, Marquette, St. Louis all have been or currently are ranked in the region and in the nation. Our receord -- I don't like our record. I wish it were the opposite and we are working to get some better results. Again, I think we have a better team than we did last year. We are very young and have to find ways to create our own luck. We have six extremely diffcult games left. We will have to win 5 - 6 of these to make the C-USA tournament.
I think we have some really good players and really good committments for next year already. We are going to continue to compete as hard as we can and get some results! Thanks for the question George. |

| Alex Simmons(The Woodlands): Coach
I wanted to know what you do before games? Do you have any superstitions or anything you do for good luck? Do any of your players have any superstitions? |
 |
 |
Bill Solberg: Alex, thanks for the question. As a team we go and eat a pregame meal together, to make sure everyone is putting the right things in their body. When we are at home, I usually watch a lot of film before the game. I make notes on points that I want to make during pregame. I meet with my staff to get their feelings. We talk about different line-ups and line-up changes. As far as superstitions, I have a lot of them. I never shave the day of a game. The last time I shaved the day of a game, my roommate tore his ACL.
The girls, I know they have several superstitions with what music they listen to, or which shoe they put on first, to where they sit in the locker room. Maybe we need to change some of these superstitions to bring us better luck. Whatever we are all doing before the games now doesn't seem to be working. Thanks for your help and your question. |

| Nick (H-town): Coach,
Tough year so far. Tough competition and some bad luck. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the bright spots so far.
Go Coogs. |

Bill Solberg: Nick thanks for the question. I think there are several bright spots on this years team. I think our seniors are two very experienced, passionate leaders that continue to push this team. I have a great deal of respect for them and their efforts throughout their career. I think the team has been in some good games. We were unlucky against, Marquette and should have beaten them, as well as DePaul University. We went head to head with South Carolina, St. Louis and East Carolina. We are right there in every game and that is very positive. Defensively we have been very tough and will continue to work toward shut-outs. Another positive is that we are getting freshmen players experience. Several freshmen are getting substantial amounts of playing time which will help this team in the future. Thanks for the question Nick! |
