HOUSTON - The University of Houston's Miranda Foley (Fr., Cambridge, England) was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27. Foley made her spring debut in the No. 1 spot for the Cougars last week.
Foley opened her Cougar career with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles as Houston defeated Texas-Pan American, 7-0, in its spring dual-match opener on Jan. 25. At the top singles spot, Foley posted a 6-1, 6-3 decision over UTPA's Elizabet Mateos. In doubles play, she teamed with Yolandi Terblanche to defeat Mateos and Ana Pena, 8-0, as the Cougars' No. 1 tandem.
Foley shares this week's honor with Louisville's Kelly Taylor (So., Dorset, England) who helped the Cardinals post a pair of wins last week over IUPUI and Butler and improve their overall dual record to 3-1 on the season. Against IUPUI on Jan. 25, Taylor played at No. 1 singles, defeating Mallory Stemle 6-3, 6-1. At the No. 1 doubles slot with teammate MARIE LOUISE FROLICH-HANSEN, Taylor posted a 9-7 victory over the tandem of Brookley Crews and Natalie Bednar. On Jan. 26, Taylor defeated Butler's Tayo Bailey at No. 2 singles after teaming with Frolich-Hansen to upend the duo of Kristina Laun and Alaina Griffin, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.
Houston (1-0, 0-0 C-USA) will open conference play as it travels to Ft. Worth to take on TCU Saturday at noon.
