Baseball Preseason Banquet Set for February 3

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will honor a former great and recognize the 2003 team during its annual preseason banquet on Feb. 3.
The event will be held, Monday, Feb. 3, in the Grand Ballroom of the UH Hilton. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and continues with dinner scheduled to be served at 7:30 p.m.
Seating is limited, and reservations are guaranteed based on the order in which they are received. Individual tickets and reserved tables are still available. For more information, call the Cougar Baseball Office at (713) 743-9396.
Prepayment must be received by January 20 to guarantee reservations.
The Cougars, who were ranked No. 7 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll released on Monday, open their 2003 season on Feb. 7-9 when they compete at the Pepperdine Tournament in Malibu, Calif.
Besides introducing the 2003 Cougar team, UH will also honor a former Cougar who made his Major League debut during the 2002 season. Pitcher Shane Nance, who remains UH's career wins and strikeouts leader, will be honored as the program's Professional Player of the Year.
A year ago, Nance was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers and made a relief appearance against the Pittsburgh Pirates, adding an RBI single in his debut.
