Under the lights of Robertson Stadium, the University of Houston Cougars held a late evening practice, as game week officially kicks off with Monday workouts. The Cougars open the 2002 season at Rice Stadium this Saturday when they face the Rice Owls in the Administaff Bayou Bucket.
The Cougars spent over two hours running a variety of drills, fine-tuning the offense, defense and special teams in the process. UH head coach Dana Dimel sees his squad progressing as planned.
"We had a good day today, a very good Monday," commented Dimel. "We had to get some things in and get some polish to what we're doing. We are trying to get some momentum heading into the week. Obviously, this is the first day of classes, so we have to focus and work our way through it.
"It was a good first day of the week, and that is the way we have to look at it, because it is game week preparation. There has to be a lot of focus to what we're doing."
The Cougars will continue their game-week preparation tomorrow, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the UH football practice fields behind the Athletics/Alumni Center. Practices continue to be closed to the public.
