Cougars Softball Knocks Down Cardinals

Houston, Texas - The Cougars came out on senior weekend determined to take games from Louisville. The Cougars won the first game 9-7.
Louisville took a short lead in the first inning, scoring a run on one hit and an error. The Cougars were determined in their at bat. Riane Netardus and Leslie Seay both earned singles and Ali McDougall sacrificed both runners over. Ray Ferreris hit her 12th homerun of the year to score three and take the lead 3-1.
Louisville scored their second run in the top of the second, coming within one before the Cougars added two more runs on the second hit of the game by Ferreris and the Cougars lead increased to three.
Louisville scored their third run in the third inning putting the score at 5-3 after the top. Houston did the same in the bottom seesawing the score to 6-3.
Louisville had a hitters inning in the sixth, bringing in four runs on six hits. The Cardinals took their first lead of the game 7-6, before the Cougars came in and closed the game out in the bottom of the inning. Houston scored the tying run on a wild pitch, then Jenilee Skender popped the ball to the right side scoring the Cougar's eighth run, and finally Lindsay Durham scored on a wild pitch scoring the ninth and final run of the game for the Cougars. Final score Houston 9, Louisville 7.
In the second game of the day the Cougars took a commanding lead that was never touched by the Cardinals. Hits in the first inning were by Seay, Netardus, McDougall, Ferreris, Skender and Nesloney. Together they scored three runs.
Ray Ferreris knocked in the fourth run of the day in the bottom of the second putting the Cougars up by four. Melissa Lynch was the lucky owner of the fifth RBI of the day scoring Kim Nesloney after her triple.
The Cardinals managed two runs in the top of the seventh to attempt a comeback but were unsuccessful at putting all of the runs on the board. The final score - Houston 5, Louisville 2.
The Cougars will be back in action on Sunday May 5th for their final game of the year against Louisville at 1:00pm.
