Houston Places In Two Relay Events At Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa.- - The University of Houston women's track and field team recorded a third-place finish and a sixth-place finish in two separate relay events at the 2002 Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
Houston's shuttle hurdle relay team of Krystal Ward, Alicia Cave, Magenta Taylor and Lauren Smith finished third in 55.65 seconds.
In addition, Jasmin Jackson, Courtnie Ratliff, Smith and Aisha Morgan combined for a sixth-place finish in the women's 4x100-meter relay championship with a time of 44.88 seconds.
Smith also qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdles championship on Saturday afternoon with a time of 13.63 seconds in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Jessica Oakes finished 11th overall in the women's steeplechase Thursday night with a time of 10:57.08. Junior Julie Perez also had a 15th-place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 11:01.68.
Jackson also finished 11th overall in the women's long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10.75 inches (5.76 meters).
