DON AUSTIN,TX: HI COACH FIRST CONGRATS ON YOUR SEASON THUS FAR. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR NEXT YEAR TO TAKE THE TEAM TO THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.(RECURTING 2003)
Kyla Holas: Hi Don. Thanks for following us. In the next recruiting class we need to sign some middle infielders and a big time pitcher. Let me know if you have any.
Captain cougar: Coach you are doing a fine job! My question is, is throwing a no-hitter a common thing in softball? We've done it twice this year!
Kyla Holas: Hi Captain. Among the top ten pitchers in the country, no-hitters are pretty common. They average 5-10 per year. We are getting closer. Stay tuned for more to come. Thanks.
Captain Cougar: Coach, the team is in it's second year of existence, are you happy with the way it is progressing?
Kyla Holas: Hey Again. We are very excited about the way this program is growing. We have far exceeded any statistical category from last year. If we can keep that kind of growth up look for big things very fast from the cougars.
maddog(Houston): Coach, fast pitch softball is a game that has been dominated by pitching for decades. Is this changing with the lively balls, better bats, and stronger athletes? Your thoughts.
Kyla Holas: Hi Maddog. Great question. Our pro league marketing department is still trying to answer that question. No doubt the equipment and athletes have changed the game, but the pitcher is still the spot to have. One ace can dominate in postseason. Remember though, I was a pitcher. Thanks.
Kris (Missouri City): I heard that there are only six teams going to the conference tournament. If we are not one of those six teams, what are our chances of still making regionals?
Kyla Holas: Hi Kris. You are correct. This year only six teams will be at the tournament. Unfortunately, if we are not one of those six our regional post season chances will be over. We sit in the Central region which covers CUSA, SEC and SWAC teams to name a few. That is pretty tough company to be in and not be one of six in your conference. This weekend and next will tell all. Hope to have you in the stands against Louisville. Thanks.
Bill (Houston): How is this season's record and the new stadium affecting recruiting?
Kyla Holas: Hey Bill. No doubt having a winning season, some ranked opponent wins and a million dollar stadium helps tremendously. It is very difficult to sell people on the future when you are not taking care of today. Nationally we recruited some big kids only to loose them to top programs, but our name is out there. In state is where the trouble still lies. Most kids grow up wanting to be Aggies or Longhorns. Until we can take care of them on the field we have alot more selling to do. Watch for that to be our focus. Thanks.
Tom (Houston): In the teams that we take on in the next two weeks, how many games do you think that we need to win minimum to stay in the Conference tournament running?
Kyla Holas: Hi Tom. I have asked myself that question repeatedly. Everyone I know has brought me the numbers of what if. Bottom line is we need to go 4-2 to be in their solid. We do not want to leave our fate up to someone else. Keep checking the hotline this weekend and wish big for us. Thanks.
