Cougars Shutout Lady Tigers in Doubleheader

Houston, Texas- - Houston softball(28-19) dominated the field today in the doubleheader against rival Texas Southern 11-0, 9-0. The Cougars knocked 22 hits in the two games scoring 20 runs total. Jenny Johnson earned both wins for the Cougars increasing her record to 11-9 for the year.
In the first game, the Cougars took a commanding lead in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on five hits. Jeanie Davis got the first hit for the Cougars and moved over Amber King who reached on an error. Kim Nesloney knocked in the next four runs which included herself after a Lady Tiger error Followed by Kristen Glowacz's seventh homerun making the Cougar lead six.
Nesloney singled in the fourth to lead off the inning and was batted in on a single by Kristen Glowacz to make the lead 7-0. Kim Nesloney finished up the game with a grand slam to right center. The Cougars took the first game of the double header 11-0. Jenny Johnson threw ten strikeouts in five innings only giving up three hits for her tenth win of the year.
The first two runs of the second game were hit out by Ray Ferreris' tenth homerun of the year. Leslie Seay singled to get on base and Nesloney got her second base-on-balls of the game. Ferreris singled to right to score Seay and Keri Kubala singled to knock in the second run of the inning. In the bottom of the third the Cougars led 4-0.
The Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the lead nine. Hits were by Seay, Nesloney, Ferreris, Kubala and Turnbo. Johnson earns the win throwing five strikouts in seventeen batters faced. The Cougars move to 28-19, 5-9 moving into their weekend series with Saint Louis on Saturday and Sunday.
