Cougar Softball Splits Double-Header With Roadrunners

Houston, Texas - The Cougar (26-19, 5-9) softball team began their double-header on the right note on Wednesday winning the first game 5-0 against the Roadrunners (24-24), but finished the day a little behind the times, losing 5-4 in eight innings in the second game.
The Cougars started their rally in the first inning with three hits and five runs. Ali McDougall got the first hit of the inning to centerfield scoring both Lindsay Durham and Riane Netardus. Ray Ferreris and Kristen Glowacz stepped to the plate knocked out homeruns for the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
The scoring was finished in the first and the final score was 5-0. Houston finished the first game with nine hits in six innings at bat. Jamie Falco got her twelfth win of the year with the game throwing three strikeouts in the one hitter.
In the second game the roadrunners jumped out to a three run lead on homerun by Jenn Haltom and scoring batters reaching on walks. The Roadrunners earned another run on a solo homerun by Christy Brownlee to increase the score to 4-0 in the bottom of three.
The Cougars turned the game around in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. Michelle Keith reached on a error to third base followed by a walk by Keri Kubala and another Roadrunner error to put on Melissa Lynch to load the bases. Ray Ferreris came in to pitch hit and knocked a single to centerfield driving in two runs. Kim Nesloney earned a RBI by knocking Lynch. Amber King reached on another error to short and scored the fourth run of the inning. At the top of the sixth inning the score was tied at four all.
The game stayed tied at four past the seventh inning into the eighth when UT San Antonio scored a run on double errors to the left side of the field. The Cougars managed two hits in the eighth by Lindsay Durham and Ali McDougall.
The win and the loss went to Jamie Falco who is now 12-7 on the season. Paige Whitley was the winner for the pitching core of the Roadrunners and moves to 11-13 for the year. The Cougars have the weekend off and will resume play next Wednesday, April 17 for a makeup double-header with Texas Southern.
