Tennis Suffers Tough Losses To Tech and SMU

Houston, Texas - The Houston Cougar tennis team finished a less than successful weekend at home on Saturday. Playing without number one singles player Sarah Borwell, the team struggled to win matched against in-state opponents Texas Tech and SMU.
The Cougars lost the first match to Texas Tech in Austin on Friday, 5-1. The only successful match by the Cougars was won by junior Analia Longoni over Beverly Dawson, 7-5, 6-2. Jo Kenne closed out her twelve-game win streak with a loss in her match against Alanka Ovin, 6-1, 6-3, but was playing up a spot in the #2 position.
In the second match of the weekend in Houston, Texas on Saturday the Cougars were again defeated by the Mustangs of SMU. With Sarah Borwell out again the Cougars took another loss, but this time by a smaller margin, 2-5.
The duo of Jen Baccarani and Jo Keene won the No.1 doubles match for the day 9-8. Jen Baccarani also won her singles match against Kit Carson 6-4, 6-2. Analia Longoni took her second win of the weekend in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 against Allison Leuszler.
The Cougar tennis team maintains their winning record after the weekend and are 8-6 for the season. They will take on Tulsa on Wednesday March 27 at 12:00pm on the road for their next game of the year.
