Houston Squeezes Past Utah in Second Game of Series

Houston, Texas - Houston defeated Utah in the second day for their series with the Utes of Utah 6-5. For the first time of the season for the Cougars, they were down to their opponent, Utah after a second inning rally scoring five runs to take a solid lead. The runs for Utah were scored on hits by Michelle Larson, Angie Kenney, Molly McLean and Melissa Stahnke. The Houston Cougar defense held firm throughout the remainder of the game, allowing no additional Ute runners to cross the plate. The Cougars made a tremendous comeback in the bottom of the fifth scoring six runs on two hits and two errors. Kristen Glowacz came into the game and put a single up the center to get on base and Ray Ferreris batted in two runs with her double to right field. The strong pitching duo of Allison Thompson and Jenny Johnson sealed the win for the Cougars to make their record 8-0. Thompson (2-0) earned the win for the Cougars and Johnson (3-0) picked up her first save of the year after pitching two hitless innings and striking out half of the batters faced.
