HOUSTON, Texas---Behind All-American Sarah Borwell, the University of Houston Cougars improved to 3-0 in the spring, defeating Texas-San Antonio, 5-2. The Cougars will look to stay unbeaten next weekend, when UH plays host to Alabama at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, and Conference USA foe Cincinnati on Sunday, February 10, beginning at 10 a.m
Borwell not only captured her number-one singles match, but she also teamed with Jen Baccarani to knock of the Roadrunners in the number-one doubles match. In the singles match, Borwell overpowered UTSA's Svenja Fuhrig, 6-1, 6-2, and then the Borwell/Baccarani tandem edged past Fuhrig and her partner, Nicole Bouffler, 8-6, in doubles play.
The Cougars headed into the doubles point already with a guaranteed victory, as UH captured four of the six singles matches, including Borwell's victory. Baccarani defeated Eva Soderkvist, 6-1, 6-1, at number three, while Jo Keen captured number-four singles with a 6-2, 6-1, drubbing of Sandra Mayr. The number-six singles match was forfeited to UH's Kandace Ridgeway.
Number-two Analia Longoni and number-five Kailey Meisinger lost their singles matches. Longini lost a tough three-set affair, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, to Bouffler, while UTSA's Emily Foster knocked off Meisinger, 6-4, 6-3.
