Cougars Softball Finds Positive in Less Than Successful Weekend

Lafayette, Louisiana - The Cougars ended the weekend 1-4 after taking on three ranked (or almost ranked) teams at the Lafayette Classics at Lady Cajun Park. The Cougars took on #22 Louisiana- Lafayette, Florida and Northwestern State. The Cougars defeated Northwestern by a six on Friday, shuting-out the Demons and that was the last they would see of wins for the weekend. Houston Lost to #22 Lafayette 6-1 on Friday evening, lost to Florida on Saturday night, and was then defeated by Northwestern State.
Entering the day on Sunday to play the tournament's number one seed, the Cougars wanted the win and were playing to get it. The game continued scoreless into the fifth inning. The Cajuns scored two runs in the fifth and the Cougars replied in the bottom of the sixth. Jamie Falco threw six strikeouts in seven solid innings against the Lady Cajuns in her fourth appearance over the weekend. Top player for the Cajuns, Alana Addison hit her fifth homerun of the Tournament to win the game for Lafayette and send the Cougars back home to Houston.
Before the Cougars departed the field the All-Tournament players were announced. The Cougars received three All-Tournament awards. As one of the pitchers of the tournament, Jamie Falco threw 23 strikeouts in the weekend and remains the Cougars number one pitcher.
Ray Ferreris and Riane Netardus also received All-Tournament honors. Ferreris went 6-14 for the Cougars batting cleanup and also knocked in two runs while Netardus had seven hits for the weekend, earning at least one per game.
The Cougars will take on the Tigers of Texas Southern on Tuesday Feb. 26 at 5:00pm for a double header.
