HOUSTON, Texas - Fresh off a 10-4 win over No. 17 Baylor to open its home season, the University of Houston looks to continue that momentum when it faces No. 3 LSU in a non-conference, three games series.
The series starts at 7 p.m. Friday at Cougar Field and continues through the weekend. Game two of the series is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday with the series finale scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The LSU series is the middle of a five-game homestand against three nationally-ranked opponents. Following this weekend, the Cougars make plans to play host to No. 6 Rice in Game Two of the Silver Glove Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
UH (4-3) looks to continue its offensive surge from Wednesday when it pounded out season bests of 10 runs off 16 hits against the Bears. All but one Cougar starter had at least one hit by the third inning with Chris Snyder and Jesse Crain each leading the way with three-hit performances.
Sophomore righthander Brad Sullivan will take the mound in game one of the series against the Tigers. Sullivan opened for the Cougars at the Lone Star Classic on Feb. 15 and collected his first win after tossing 6.0 innings of one-hit ball to go with four strikeouts.
The Nederland, Texas, native has not allowed an earned run in his first 11.1 innings of work and tops the staff with 13 strikeouts and an amazing .088 opposing batting average.
This will be the third straight season that the two teams have met in a three-game series, but it will be the first time that LSU has visited Houston since 1994 and the Tigers' first-ever visit to Cougar Field.
The Tigers (7-1) come into the game on the heels of a 7-6 win at Centenary on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to four games. David Raymer ripped a two-run double in the top of the ninth inning to help LSU rally from a late deficit against the Gents.
Junior righthander Bo Pettit makes his third start of the season Friday against the Cougars. This season, Pettit is 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA and tied a career-best with 12 strikeouts on Feb. 15 against Mercer.
