Houston Softball Rolls Over #17 Southwest Texas Bobcats

San Marcos, Texas - In the first game on Saturday for the Cougars at the B&G Properties Tournament, Houston fought an all out battle until the fourth inning when things began to fall into place. The Cougars took the lead, 3-0 in the fourth after a pitchers battle in the first half of the game. Ali McDougal began the series with a strong double to left field. Kim Cote singled and scored McDougal. Lindsay Durham then hit a shot to right center and scored the second run. Melissa Lynch poked a single to finish the scoring in the fifth with a score of 3-0.
Cougars did not let up following up with 2 runs in the fifth inning. Leslie Seay doubled and moved over on a bunt by Riane Netardus. An error and a stolen base scored Seay and moved Netardus to third. McDougal singled to drive in Netardus and the score was then 5-0. The pitcher, Allison Thompson held firm throughout the rest of the game keeping the final score 5-0 and making the Cougars overall record 3-0. The win belonged to Thompson she starts the year 1-0.
The Cougars will play Texas Tech at 6:00pm on Saturday Feb 2,2002. They will also finish up the tournament at 12:00 and 2:00pm Sunday afternoon.
