Captain Cougar: Coach, your girls are doing a fantastic job this year. Are you surprised at their progress? How do you think you will do this year in CUSA? What about those power pitcher and hitters you have? Is that a suprise?
Kyla Holas: We feel this is a natural progression. We have some talented athletes that just needed some experience. We feel with the right day and our game at its top, we could take the conference. Our power is not a surprise. That is what we look for and try to recruit since our home field is a power place.
maddog(Houston): Coach, congratulations on a great start. Can you give us a quick brief rundown on the high profile teams y7ou will face this season? Both OOC and C-USA.
Kyla Holas: Thanks. This season we play four preseason ranked opponents in SWT, ULL, DePaul and USF. However, we have some very tough competition in Texas Tech, Baylor, Ohio State and USM. Hope to see you there.
Barbara, Houston: I know that you were rotating returning players in with newcomers in the first group of games this year. Are you going to continue to do that or are you going to decide on one or the other?
Kyla Holas: You are correct. In the early part of the season so far, we are trying to find the best nine out there. Some positions are beginning to become secured, but right now we have a number of people still hot. I would not look for the roster to be solidified til conference. Thanks for keeping up with us.
Amy (The Woodlands): Do you think that your preseason schedule will adaquately prepare you for the tough conference schedule this year?
Kyla Holas: Hi Amy. The CUSA is becoming a tougher conference nationally. As that happens it will become tougher to be fully prepared. At this point, we feel that the amount we play before conference will have us ready. Thanks for your time.
Michael (Houston): Congratulations Coach on a great start to your second season. I first wanted to say how great I think the ladies on your team are. We came out to the tournament this last weekend and my two Fastpitch fanatic girls, ages 9 and 12, had the time of their lives meeting, talking with, and watching the players on your team compete. A team's personality says volumes about it's coach and we at the U of H couldn't be prouder of you and your players. My question is: How well do you feel you can recruit Texas for the best players with your new program and new facility, knowing that we are the so called "new" kid on the block?
Go Coogs!
Kyla Holas: So glad you made it out. We were very happy to have the support this weekend. Recruiting Texas is our number one objective. At this point we have not been able to make a run at the top players. We should see better results as we start to get some big wins and establish ourselves in the top 25. Thanks.
Samantha (SugarLand): Why can softball pitchers throw so many games in a day/ weekend, when baseball pitchers can not?
Kyla Holas: Hey Samantha. That is a great question. Unfortunately, no-one has the answers yet. There are alot of studies going on around the country to find answers biomechanically about pitching. Hopefully, in a few years we will have some answers. Most doctors think the distraction force is lesser. Thanks and sorry I could not help.
Heather (Houston): When you have been beat by teams this season, you have not scored any runs. Do you think that this has something to do with the inexperience of the team?
Kyla Holas: Hi Heather. Good observation. We are looking into that very question. At this point, our two losses have been against better pitching. This week we are going to focus on more speed work, location and changes of speed. Usually better pitching is ahead of good hitting early in the year. Look for the adjustments from us and hopefully some big wins soon. Thanks.
Captain Cougar: Hey Coach. Are you suprised at your teams early season success? How do the girls feel about the year so far? We look forward to you and your team play real soon. It's time to get the word out. You are doing a great job with the program.
Kyla Holas: Thanks for the support. We were surprised opening weekend. Now we have set the bar and are just expecting more. The team attitude is fantastic so far. Everyone is still hungry and working hard to get these big wins early. See you at the park.
Nick Torina: Coach Holas I just wanted to say congrats on a great start. And find out your point of view on the rankings thus far. It seems like the cougars get the shaft in all polls in all sports.
Kyla Holas: Hey Nick. We try not to put to much into the rankings. In softball, they are for publicity purposes only. The region rankings are where we are staying focused on. Top 25 does not matter, if you get into regionals. Stay positive, change happens slowly.
Nashville, TN: Congratulations on a great start! Keep teaching the game the way it is suppose to be played and keep making them believe! Again, congrats!
Gaye Lynn
Kyla Holas: Hey GL. Thanks for keeping up with us. The road is long, but the strong will endure. Believe and you will succeed. Hope to see you around.
Captain Cougar (Sugar Land): Coach, just wanted to thank for doing this question and answer session. You are fine addition to the UH community and we are glad you are here.
Go Coogs
Kyla Holas: Thank you for the support. I have enjoyed being a cougar more than anything. We are just getting started. The best is yet to come. Go Coogs.
