Houston Tennis Splits Weekend Matches

Houston, Texas - The Cougars played two tough matches this Saturday and Sunday at home at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts. On Saturday the Cougars took on #26 Alabama and on Sunday they took on the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Cougars #1 player Sarah Borwell defeated Selia Mathew of Alabama in their match 6-4, 6-2 and defeated Jen Capuzzi of Cincinnati by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Her record for the season is 5-0. The number two player Analia Longoni, split her two matches of the weekend defeating Cris Reyes of Cincinnati 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 and loosing the first match of the weekend also in three sets to Jenny Ketchum of Alabama.
Jen Baccarani won two this weekend defeating Millie Begovic of Bama 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and then Khush Itazia of the Bearcats in two sets. Senior, Jo Keene won her two with scores of 7-6, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2 over Crimson Tide player Sophie Kremmers and Leen Corneillie of the Bearcats. Kailey Meisinger and Kandace Ridgway also put in strong efforts for the Cougars of Houston. In doubles matches, Sarah Borwell and Jen Baccarani took two wins defeating Begovic and Chang of Alabama 8-4 and Italia and Capuzzi of Cincy, 8-2. That makes the duo still undefeated during the spring season (5-0).
The pair of Analia Longoni and Jo Keene split their matches of the weekend defeating Corneillie and Liu of Cincinnati (9-8) and barely loosing to Mathew and Ketchum of Alabama (8-4). The final pair of doubles played this weekend by Meisinger and Ridgway were taken by the opposition but fought hard for the final. Baum and Leung won 8-2 and Molony and Klauck of Cincy won, 8-3.
The Cougar Tennis team will be back in action next weekend out of twon against LSU and Tulane.
