CHICAGO - Houston's Jenny Tanneberger was among nine Conference USA athletes to be named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Team as announced Wednesday by the AVCA. It is Tanneberger's first time receiving the award and second time C-USA has had nine players on the list, matching the most in league history.
Tanneberger, a two-time All-C-USA First-Team selection and three-time C-USA Player of the Week in 2002, led the Cougars and ranked fourth in the league with 5.26 kills per game and a .335 attack percentage in 2002. The 6-0 middle blocker started and played in all of Houston's 32 matches and 119 games this season, posting nine double-doubles and earning all-tournament honors three times.
Her 41-kill performance on Oct. 12 against Saint Louis broke the school record (37) and tied the C-USA and 2002 NCAA Division I mark for single-game kills. Her 612 kills this season and 4.25 career average kills per game rank her second all-time in school history in those categories behind Jennifer Wittenburg.
Tanneberger is one of three graduating seniors on this year's squad alongside Donna Sellen and Jane Anne Karasek. Houston's 19-13 finish in 2002 marked its 21st consecutive winning season with the last 16 of those campaigns coached by Bill Walton.
