Robinson Named UH Senior Associate Athletics Director

HOUSTON -
John Robinson Jr. was named Senior Associate Athletics Director at the University of Houston, as announced by Director of Athletics Dave Maggard Monday. Devin Crosby has been promoted to the position of Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions and Maria C. Peden was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services.
Robinson joins the UH athletic department after eight years as the Associate A.D. at Villanova. His responsibilities at Villanova included sports administration, supervision of compliance, sports medicine and the strength and conditioning program.
While attending SMU, Robinson was a member of the football team which won the Southwest Conference in 1982. He also played in the 1983 Sun Bowl and 1984 Aloha Bowl and was named to the All-SWC Academic Honor Team. Robinson transferred to Columbia University where he continued his football career and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1987.
Robinson continued his studies at Tulane and earned a law degree, eventually becoming a member of the State Bar Association of Texas. While at Villanova, Robinson earned a master's degree in business in 2002 and was a member of the Sports Management Institute Class of 2002-03.
"John comes to Houston highly qualified," Maggard said. "His experience as an athlete, student and professional all point to his being an outstanding asset. We are pleased to have him join our staff."
Crosby is in his first year as an Assistant A.D. after serving as the Director of Marketing and Promotions at UH since 2001. He came to Houston after serving four years in the Marketing and Promotions Department at Holy Cross.
A native of Aliquippa, Pa., Crosby ran track and earned a bachelor's degree in communications studies in 1997 from Slippery Rock University and a master's degree in sports administration from East Stroudsburg University.
"Devin has shown great ambition in his tenure here," Maggard said. "His work ethic and ideas aid us in efforts to market all aspects of this athletic department."
Peden came to Houston in 1996 and served as lead counselor for the Cougar football team until 1999. She returned to UH in 2000 after a one-year hiatus and was appointed the Academic Counselor for men's basketball.
A native of Washington, D.C., Peden earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Trinity College in 1996 and a master's degree in sociology/statistics from North Carolina.
"Maria has been a strong part of the student services foundation for some time and has also proven to be an excellent leader in her field," Maggard said.
