Lady Cougars to Host Houston Hoops Classic

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team will host the 2002 Houston Classic Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 at Hofheinz Pavilion. Houston will face Northern Iowa for the first time ever Friday at 7 p.m.; North Iowa will take on Sam Houston State Saturday at 7 p.m.; and Houston will wrap up against Sam Houston Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Lady Cougars (1-2, 0-0 C-USA) will be looking to rebound from Wednesday night's 76-57 loss to No. 19 Mississippi State in its regular season home opener. The loss was Houston's first at Hofheinz Pavilion since losing at home to TCU on Jan. 6, 2001.
Houston is led by All-American Chandi Jones (5-10, G/F), who scored 33 of the Lady Cougars' 57 points in the loss to Mississippi State. Jones, the 2002 Conference USA Player of the Year, is averaging 24.3 point and 7.0 rebounds per game this season.
Houston will travel across the state to battle UTEP Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and will wrap up the week at the UNC Tournament Dec 6-7 in Raleigh, N.C.
