Baseball Adds Another in Early Signing Period

HOUSTON - Junior college pitcher Austin Sumerlin became the latest signee for the University of Houston baseball team during the early signing period, head coach Rayner Noble announced Thursday.
Sumerlin, who will play at Galveston Junior College this spring, will join the Cougars for the 2004 season. The righthander prepped at Spring Woods High School in Houston and was a redshirt with the Cougar program in 2002.
Sumerlin becomes the eighth signee for the Cougar baseball program this season. He joins pitchers Brad Lincoln (Brazoswood High), Brad Depoy (The Woodlands High), Shea Hancock (Langham Creek High), Clint Goocher (San Jacinto Junior College), infielders Kyle Rudy (Arlington-Martin High) and Patrick Gaylord (Katy-Taylor High) and outfielder Jake Stewart (Santa Fe High).
