Lady Cougar Basketball To Air On Two Local Stations

HOUSTON - A schedule of radio coverage of Lady Cougar basketball for the 2002-03 season was released Tuesday by the University of Houston and ISP Sports. Coverage will include 23 regular season games shared by stations KGBC-AM (1540) and KGOL-AM (1180), with all games being broadcast on the official Cougar website, UHcougars.com.
"This gives us a more thorough and complete opportunity for women's basketball to be heard and enjoyed by all," Director of Athletics Dave Maggard said. "The agreement is keeping with our goals in promoting and marketing sports at the University of Houston."
Fourteen contests will air on KGBC and nine on KGOL. The 2003 Conference USA Tournament and other postseason dates involving the Lady Cougars also will be carried, with the schedule for those broadcasts to be determined.
"We feel that this shared agreement with KGBC and KGOL will provide Lady Cougar basketball fans improved coverage within the greater Houston metro area," said Stacy Hall, the Houston ISP Sports general manager. ISP is the multimedia rights holder for Cougar Athletics and producer of all radio broadcasts for Houston sports.
Returning as play-by-play announcer for all games, including those airing on the website, is C.B. Devoy. He will be joined by former Houston All-American heptathlete Jolanda Jones, who will serve as color analyst.
The Lady Cougars are coming off an outstanding 26-8 season in which they advanced to the finals of the WNIT. Four starters return from that squad including junior All-American and 2002 C-USA Player of the Year Chandi Jones.
