LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Houston women's volleyball team continues its Conference USA season and finishes a brief road swing when it meets Louisville in a 2 p.m. match Sunday at Cardinal Arena.
The Cougars (5-6, 2-1 C-USA) come into the match on the heels of a disappointing 3-1 loss at Cincinnati on Thursday, the first loss for UH in league play this season.
In that match, senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg led the way for the Cougars with 19 kills and 12 digs for the 19th double-double of her UH career. Jane Karasek and Jenny Tanneberger also had 16 kills apiece for Houston. Sophomore outsider hitter Loure Dews also tallied a career-best nine kills and made only two errors in 15 chances against the Bearcats.
Wittenburg is the team's leader with 267 kills and 167 digs, while Tanneberger leads the way with a .313 attack percentage. Senior Gabi Carbone is second on the squad with 157 digs this season.
The Cardinals are the only Conference USA team that can boast of a winning record against Houston. Louisville has posted an all-time mark of 8-4 against the Cougars and enters Sunday's match on a five-match winning streak over UH.
The Cougars last enjoyed victory over Louisville with a 3-0 shutout during the 1997 regular season.
Louisville (8-1, 3-0 C-USA) enters Sunday's match on the heels of a 3-0 win over TCU on Thursday. In that match, Sonja Percan led the Cardinals with 12 kills and has tallied a team-best 145 kills this season.
Following Sunday's match, UH returns home to start a three-match homestand. The Cougars start their home stay when they play host to nationally-ranked Hawaii in a 7:30 p.m. match Wednesday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
